IGG Beti Kamya, Brig Gen Isoke Optimistic On Corruption

THE joint forces of anti corruption agencies in Uganda led by the IGG Hon Beti Kamya, Brig Gen Henry Isoke of the State House Anti Corruption Unit and others have expressed hope that the tendency will succefully be handled if the youth embraced the battle.

During a joint press conference held Wednesday 3,2024 at Uganda Media center in Kampala’, they officials said the youth were the right group to prepare to fighting the graft tendencies.

This comes as the country prepares to celebrate the international anti corruption day which falls on December 9, 2024.

This year’s theme is “promoting effective youth participation in the fight against corruption” which shows the critical role the young people have to play and the importance of availing platforms to enable them speak about corruption.

Hon Kamya emphasized that the young people who are over 78% of the population in Uganda need to know that they have the potential to work as agents of change against corruption.

Additionally,
Brig Gen Isoke
noted that , ” as a country, we have made reasonable steps with increased awareness of citizens despite corruption being a big challenge”.

The United Nations
United Nations
Office on Drugs and Crime came up with the
International Anti-Corruption Day with a motive of
uniting with Youth Against Corruption so as to shape tomorrow’s Integrity

The drive was that young people have big dreams and aspirations, but corruption erodes the fabric of society, stifles progress and deprives them of educational opportunities, job prospects, engagement in public life, success in sports and access to healthcare and other essential services.

UN also contended that corruption contributes to environmental degradation and climate destruction as well as numerous challenges, tragedies, inequalities and injustices, saying it must stop.

The world young people population is about 1.9 billion suggesting that fighting corruption is vital for the future of nearly a quarter of the global population thus they also have the potential to become powerful agents of change in the fight for a future rooted in integrity.
