From Grade 3 Teacher To Scholarships In UK ,USA And Ranks In NRA, Dr Nabwiso Leaves A Legacy

THE prominent historian, scholar, and politician who started as a grade 3 teacher climbing ladders to attain scholarships in UK and USA before joining rebel ranks of NRA has passed away.
He breathed his last at Mukono Church of Uganda Hospital after being bedridden for some time.
According to his wife, Christine Nabwiso her husband has been down with pneumonia.
Dr Nabwiso who started small but hard working, served at Radio Uganda’s Lusoga programs as he persued more education at Makerere in the 1960s before scooping Scholarships in both UK and USA.
He later served in various capacities in the Amin era where he lectured to army in Gaddafi barracks before he lived in Kenya where he joined rebel ranks of NRA.
During the Nairobi peace talks, Dr Nabwiso was instrumental and after the fall of Gen Tito Okello Lutwa and NRA took over he served in many more capabilities.
He leaves behind over seven children and grandchildren.
Media reports credits Dr Nabwiso, as a widely respected servant of the country for his intellect and dedication to public service, served as the Member of Parliament for Kagoma County in Jinja District from 2001 to 2006.
Nabwiso was unseated in 2006 by Fredrick Nkayi in a highly contested race.
In 2021, Dr Nabwiso contested as the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) flagbearer for the Jinja City mayoral seat.
Despite a spirited campaign, he came in second to National Unity Platform’s (NUP) Peter Kasolo Okocha.
At the time of his death, Dr Nabwiso was a member of the FDC’s special Elders’ Council.
He was instrumental in resolving internal party disputes, most notably chairing the committee that investigated allegations by Dr Kizza Besigye regarding FDC leadership’s receipt of government campaign funds for the 2021 general elections.
His report ultimately cleared top party officials Nathan Nandala Mafabi and Patrick Amuriat of any wrongdoing.
Dr Nabwiso’s passing marks the end of a distinguished career in academia and politics.
He will be remembered for his deep knowledge of history, his commitment to democratic values, and his unwavering dedication to public service.
