THE recent instructions by NUP party president Mr Robert Kyaggulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine rallying members to stand for any political post in the incoming 2026 elections have placed the red flagged NUP MPs in line of fire.

Bobi Wine told party members that notwithstanding how long an MP has served all constituencies and other political office are up for grabs.

” Come and stand in all constituencies. Don’t fear that someone has been our MP in that constituency for so long or that his so big. Any body can take up any office you just connect with the voters” said Mr Kyaggulanyi.

Although the move was seen as a call encouraging NUP members to be vigilant, insiders said it’s also aimed at uprooting senior NUP MPs and holders of other offices who haven’t been royal to NUP leadership, those who have underworked or those who lost direction.

A senior NUP member told our Media that NUP has many MPs and other office holders whose candidature won’t be embraced come 2026.

He said some MPs pretended or used influence to blind fold Mr Bobi Wine that they were in NUP for the cause yet they were nursing personal ambitions, traitors or looking for jobs to earn a better living.

This comes at a time when some NUP MPs have been accused of underserving NUP politically and in the house.
In Lubaga South some voters and NUP members accuse Hon Aloysius Mukasa as not having lived to expectations politically and at parliamentary performances.

” You cannot equate him to former area MPs save for late Kato Lubwama. You can never hear him speaking at the floor of Parliament and I think NUP goofed . His royalty to NUP is also questionable” said an analyst.

Mukasa is not alone. There other MPs like Hon Dr Abed Bwanika, Medard Ssegona, Mathias Mpuga, Bashir Kazibwe and Joy Baagala whose royalty to NUP is wanting.
Mpuuga has been trading in accusations and counter accusations with his bosses at NUP over the service award and has lately formed the Democratic Alliance pressure group dumping NUP which suspended him from his Buganda NUP vice presidency.

Dr Bwanika, Baagala and a few others are said to have failed to take a stand between Mpuga and NUP on service award while other MPs the likes of Hon Kagabo are accused of crossing over to PLU.
A source told this Media that many MPs the on NUP ticket will be shocked when it comes to getting party cards.

” The voters who are the deciders have been watching and we cannot take them for granted. NUP members will not vote for personalities but for what their president will direct them because even in 2021 some people who have become too big were bound to loose of it was not for NUP support” said a senior NUP member.

The NUP party national mobilizer , chairman Nyanzi told Media that no office in NUP is personal.

He said all offices were open for grabs and that the party will support any body for any office as long as he can connect to voters and will work for NUP advancement and democracy.
