Why M7 Appointed Deputy Chief Justice, Other Justices

KAMPALA

JUSTICE Hon Flavian Zeija is now Uganda’s Deputy Chief Justice after president Museveni appointed him ahead of Richard Buteera’s retirement from the Supreme Court come May.
He has been the Principal Judge of the High Court.

The President also filled the vacant seat left by Justice Esther Kisaakye who ran to exile last year sighting personal insecurities after major misunderstandings and now Justice Muzamil Mutangula Kibeedi will fill her space at supreme court bench.

The February 6,2025 appointments also includes eight justices to the Court of Appeal among them High Court judge Musa Ssekaana .

Others are Lady Justices Ketra Kitariisibwa Katunguka, Sabiiti Cornelia Kakooza, Stella Alibateese, Florence Nakacwa, Esta Nambayo, Justice Jesse Byaruhanga Rugyema and John Mike Musisi.

Similarly,the President appointed 21 acting Judges to the High Court, with a term of two years.
These includes figures such as Sarah Langa Siu, who until December was the Registrar of the Judiciary.

Others include Lady Justices Rosemary Bareebe Ngabirano, Mary Babirye, Deepa Verma, Lillian Alum Omara, Ida Nakiganda,
Mary Babirye, Mary Kaitesi Kisakye, Susan Odongo, Joanita Gertrude Bushara, Sarah Birungi Kalibbala,Flavia Grace Lamuno and Fatuma Nanziri Bwanika.

Lady Justice Faridah Shamilah Bukirwa who has been facing investigations was also re appointed for a period of one year follows the conclusion of her disciplinary proceedings.

The judicial statement said all appointments were in line with the president’s duties and are expected to enhance the Judiciary’s capacity, improve the administration of justice, and uphold the rule of law in Uganda.
