The head of State House Anti Corruption Unit, Brig Gen Henry Isoke has rallied against corruption saying it threatens peace.
During a presentation to members of the Rotary Club of Kasangati on the topic “Corruption: A Threat to Peace.” he highlighted the effects of corruption on peace and development.
This presentation was part of Rotary’s February’s theme, designated as “Peace Building & Conflict Prevention” Month.
He gave the negative effects of corruption on Uganda’s development and overall peace. He pointed out that corruption affects the delivery of essential services to the public and diverts resources intended for the common good into the hands of a few individuals, creating inequality among citizens.
The Brigadier assured the Rotarians that the government is making significant efforts to fight corruption through a series of reforms which reforms have led to the establishment of concrete legal, administrative, and institutional frameworks designed to address the vice.
He thanked Mr. Andrew Kisitu, a former commissioner of prisons and club secretary, for the invitation. He commended the members of the Rotary Club of Kasangati for their ongoing initiatives and unwavering commitment to peace-building and community development, which contribute to the social and economic well-being of the people.
In conclusion, he encouraged Rotary to continue its mandate of providing humanitarian service, promoting high ethical standards in all vocations, and helping to build goodwill and peace within communities.
He emphasized that such efforts have a multiplier effect in the fight against corruption, addressing issues of inequality, enhancing citizen participation, and nurturing ethical leaders.
