The Ugandan Muslim community joined fellow believers worldwide in celebrating Eid El-Fitr, marking the successful completion of the Holy Month of Ramadhan.
Hundreds of thousands of worshippers gathered at the National Mosque in Old Kampala, where Eid prayers were led by His Eminence Dr. Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the Mufti of Uganda.
In his four-page written speech, Mufti Mubaje expressed deep gratitude to the Muslim faithful for their humility, patience, and courage in observing the divine act of fasting, as commanded by Almighty Allah in the Holy Qur’an and taught by Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).
“We beseech Almighty Allah to reward all those who fasted during Ramadhan with joy and blessings on the Day of Resurrection,” Mufti Mubaje prayed. He also condemned the ongoing mass killings of Palestinians in Gaza, calling on world leaders to take action and uphold humanity through dialogue and peaceful conflict resolution.
Mufti Mubaje reminded Ugandan Muslims that UMSC belongs to all of them and urged unity, reconciliation, and support for its programs. He warned against unnecessary conflicts that could weaken the organization.
He also called on the government to regulate TikTok, criticizing its misuse as a platform for idleness and spreading harmful content. “Let the authorities take action against TikTok users who abuse the platform, just as they did with those misusing Facebook before it is too late,” he said. He described it as a space where immoral behavior and division are being encouraged.
Earlier, Deputy Mufti Sheikh Muhammad Ali Waiswa also addressed the congregation, expressing deep concern over the suffering of Palestinians. Hon. Hadji Abbas Muluubya Ssekyanzi shared key UMSC achievements, including hosting major national functions graced by President Yoweri Museveni and Vice President Jessica Alupo, participation in international conferences, launching income-generating programs in ten Muslim regions, improving education, health, and imam training, strengthening constitutional governance, ensuring proper leadership selection, and expanding UMSC properties nationwide.
The event was attended by Muslim leaders at all levels. Before departure, the congregants listened to a spiritually uplifting sermon delivered by Sheikh Ismail Lukebelwa, a member of Majlis Al-Ulama.
