Police is hunting nine suspects who escaped from custody at Jinja Central Police Station (CPS) in the early hours of Sunday, March 30.
About 10 suspects, who were being held for minor offenses such as affray and public nuisance, broke free under circumstances now under investigation by Kiira Region Police Command.
Kiira regional police spokesman James Mubi, said 10 of them escaped but one escapee has since been rearrested following a coordinated law enforcement operation launched immediately after the breakout.
Fresh charges of prison breaking will be added on their files as Investigations on how they escaped is underway and whoever found negligent will be reprimanded.
Meanwhile Regional Police Commander (RPC) Charles Nsaba reinforced the importance of command and control at police facilities, cautioning officers against negligence of duty.
This incident is not the first of its kind at Jinja CPS. In December 2021, 17 suspected hardcore criminals managed to escape from the same facility, raising concerns over security lapses within the station.
