KAMPALA
The anti corruption court in Kampala charged a senior Lands official and many others on matters relating to major fraud, forgery and forceful entry on over 600 Madhvani in Gomba.
The group was arrested by State House Anti corruption unit working together with Uganda police and the DPP’s office after getting orders from the president to handle the matter.
Mr Jasper Kakooza the acting commissioner mapping and survey was charged with nine others for cases ranging from fraudulent creation of over lapping land tittles on Madhvani estate which he owned since 1955.
The land which is on freehold register volume 60, folio 4 and legally owned by the sugarcane investor.
The other nine people included government officials, district Leaders and private individuals including guards and bodaboda operators.
Apart from Kakooza others are : Mr Bassajjangabo Hakim-Senior Assistant Secretary at Kabulasooke, Gomba District, Mr.Siwuliliza Andrew Sserunkuma the chairman LC1 Mpogo village,
Miss Nakanwagi Gladys- Former secretary Gomba District Land Board,
Hajj Kayongo Badru Ismail- Former Chairperson, Gomba District Land Board,
Mr Nuwahereza Allan Katakanya-Business Man,
Mr Mudenyi Gerald- Security Guard, Mr Nabimanya David-Security Guard,
Mr Ssenoga Abdu- Casual labourer
and Mr Kisenyi Harunah- Boda boda rider
They were charged with Abuse of Office, Forgery, fraudulent procurement of certificate of title, forcible entry, forcible detainer, destroying growing plants and conspiracy to commit a misdemenour and a felony respectively.They have been remanded until 30th April 2025.
Court heard that in 2024, the commissioner working with the accused and others still at large, fraudulently created overlapping titles on an existing title registered in the names of Madhvani Group in 1955.
Under the guise of conducting a boundary opening, they violently took possession of over 600 acres of land comprised in FRV 60 folio 4 in Musongole village, Mpenja subcounty, Gomba District, belonging to Madhvani Group Limited and in the process took possession, destroyed tea plantations and over 540 acres of natural forest.
Meanwhile Warrants of Arrest have been issued for the Deputy RDC Gomba, Sitenda Nicodemus Mugalu, physical planner, Mugenyi Vicent and businessman, Fred Kirenga.
