The Anti graft agencies headed by the State House Anti corruption unit working with Uganda police and office of the DPP have
arraigned three suspects on charges of theft among others.
The accused included Mr Obua Denith, Okeng Joel
and Ayo Jonan.
They were charged , before the Magistrates Court Otuke district on charges of theft and unlawful possession of National IDs belonging to other people meant to get cattle compensation in the district.
They denied the charges and were remanded till July 22, 2025.
It was alleged that during the registration for cattle compensation and account opening, the accused and others still at large obtained bank details of their victims who are mostly elderly and have since been operating their accounts, stealing money paid by government for cattle compensation.
The fraudsters denied the victims their bank account details, blocking them from accessing their money.
Over UGX 500M has so far been taken from the victims in the scam and investigations are still ongoing.
