Wakiso, Uganda — Shock and fear have gripped residents of Nagalabi in Buddo, Wakiso District, after a young woman was discovered murdered in the historically significant area where Kabaka of Buganda is traditionally crowned. The gruesome incident occurred over the weekend, sending waves of panic through the community.

The body of the yet-to-be-identified woman, believed to be in her 20s, was found near a bushy path close to a residential stretch not far from the royal site. Witnesses say she appeared to have been beaten and strangled before being dumped in the area, raising serious concerns about growing insecurity even in culturally sacred places.

Local residents were the first to find the body early Saturday morning. Children heading to collect water stumbled upon the horrific scene and raised an alarm. Police quickly arrived at the scene, sealed it off, and commenced preliminary investigations.

Nagalabi is famously known as the coronation ground for the kings of Buganda, a location revered for its deep cultural and royal significance. The murder occurring in such a sacred place has sparked outrage among cultural leaders and citizens alike.
“This is not just an attack on an individual, it’s a desecration of our cultural heritage and a wake-up call about the safety of our communities,” said a local elder. “How can such evil happen in the shadow of a royal site?”

Security personnel believe the woman may have been killed elsewhere and her body dumped near Nagalabi to possibly avoid detection. The police have taken her body to Mulago Hospital for a postmortem while appealing to the public to help identify her or provide any useful leads.

Residents are demanding tighter security in Buddo and surrounding areas. “The roads are dark, and there’s very little police visibility. This is not the first case of violence here,” said a concerned resident.

No arrests had been made by press time, but police confirmed that investigations are ongoing. Community members are being urged to remain alert and report any suspicious activity.

This murder has intensified calls for nationwide action to improve the protection of women and preserve the sanctity of Uganda’s cultural landmarks.
