Mayuge, Uganda — In anticipation of President Yoweri Museveni’s forthcoming visit, NRM officials led by Parliament’s Speaker Annet Anita Among and SPA Chairperson Namyalo spearheaded a large‑scale mobilisation campaign in Mayuge district on Friday. The drive aimed to consolidate grassroots support and galvanize party structures ahead of the president’s address to local constituents.
The mobilisation involved roadshows, community meetings, and outreach to local leaders across Mayuge’s divisions. Supporters say the exercise helps to engage voters directly and strengthen party cohesion in advance of national-level engagements. Organisers also used the opportunity to register new members and distribute party messaging materials.
In her remarks, Speaker Among underscored the importance of unity and discipline within the NRM, appealing to party faithful to rally behind Museveni’s agenda. She praised local government teams for their role in coordinating the exercise, urging that momentum be maintained beyond the visit itself.
SPA Namyalo echoed these sentiments, warning against complacency and calling on party operatives to ensure every village is covered before campaign activities intensify. “We are not just preparing for a visit, we are preparing for continuous engagement,” she said.
Local audiences responded with enthusiasm, waving party flags and chanting campaign slogans during the march. Some community members expressed optimism, noting that the visibility of high-ranking officials reassures citizens that their district is not being overlooked.
Critics, however, urged caution, reminding party officials that mobilisation should not overshadow development needs. Some opposition observers warned of potential coercion or intimidation in such events, especially in districts where party competition is stiff.
As the day’s campaign activities wrapped, attention now turns to Museveni’s planned visit and speech. Observers will assess how the mobilisation translates into substantive support when the president interacts directly with the electorate in Mayuge.
