According to his wife , Miss Winnie Byanyima, Besigye’s Lawyers met with Justice Emmanuel Baguma and prison authorities and it was agreed that Dr Besigye be allowed to interect with fellow prisoners.

According to the message on her X formerly tweeter handle , she wrote;

Lawyers for @kizzabesigye1 met Injustice Baguma and the OC of Luzira Prison and secured an end to his year-long solitary confinement. He will now be allowed to be with other prisoners for three hours a day.

The persecution, humiliation, and violence inflicted on you by President @KagutaMuseveni break our hearts. We will not stop fighting for your freedom and we are praying for you. Stay strong.

Until then Dr Besigye was living a solitary life in prison.

Besigye and his co accused Hajj Obeid Lutale have spent over a year in detention ever since the two were hijacked from Nairobi, Kenya and returned to the country.

The two and UPDF’s Captain Denis Oola are charged with treason for allegedly plotting to overthrow the government. Prosecutors claim the trio held clandestine meetings in Geneva, Athens, Nairobi, and Kampala to solicit funds, acquire weapons, and organize paramilitary operations.
