At least 10 people have lost their lives died and three others left injured in a nasty accident on the Iganga–Bugiri Highway this morning after a taxi (UBN 817H) headed from Busia to Iganga reportedly lost control and crashed into a stationary trailer (UA 647BA) at Busowa in Bugiri District.
According to initial reports, the nasty accident occurred at Busowa Town Council after the Taxi, a Toyota Hiace lost control while overtaking and collided with a stationary trailer at around 7 am today.
According to the Directorate Traffic and Road Safety Spokesperson SP Michael Kananura, preliminary investigations indicate that accident occurred after the taxi driver attempted to overtake an unidentified vehicle but was forced to react abruptly when another vehicle approached from the opposite direction.
“In an effort to avoid a head-on collision, the driver swerved to the left, lost control, and rammed into a stationary trailer,” he said.
SP Kananura noted that investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the Wednesday morning crash that also claimed the taxi driver’s life.
