KAMPALA-UGANDA/NEWSDAY: A court has convicted a woman for “eating a teacher’s money” and later refusing to marry him.

Kanungu District Grade One magistrate Asanansio Mukombi has ruled that it was “unreasonable, a misrepresentation and fraud” for Ms. Fortunate Kyarikunda to accept love proposals from Mr. Richard Tumwine, a teacher and later refuse to mary him in contravention of their mutual agreement.

Magistrate Mukombi has ordered Kyarikunda to pay all the monies Tumwine had spent on him during the entire period they were in the purported love.

“The accused will have to pay the costs of the suit and reimburse all the money that Mr. Tumwine spent on her,”the magistrate ruled.

Court filings show that Mr. Tumwine who was a teacher a Kiringa Primary in 2015 he met with Kyarikunda who had joined the school as a student teacher. The two started a love relation and entered an agreement to marry each other.

In the plaint, Tumwine says his lover opted to enroll for a diploma in law at the LDC and he paid all the required fees that amount to Shs.9.4 m.

The two later in January 2022 arranged an introduction which would take place in February the same year. But the Kyarikunda, turned against Tumwine claiming she could not marry an old man.

Yet Tumwine had already extended Shs.5m towards the introduction and the money had been sent to the woman via mobile money number 0772 932641.

“This is unreasonable, a misrepresentation and fraud. The defendant had all the opportunity to reject the love requests at the earliest point possible and avoid interfering with his financial obligations,”the magistrate ruled in a January 19, 2023 judgement.

Ms. Kyakurinda has been ordered to pay General damages of Shs.1.000.000 and Shs9.4 million that was used as fees at the LDC and other general damages.
