Body of missing Ugandan doctor exhumed in Kenya

Family failed to pay ransom to the pastor who kidnapped Dr. Wamasebu

KENYA. The body of the missing Ugandan doctor has been found buried along a river bank in Kakamega, Kenya.

The 62-yesr- old Dr. Gideon Wamasebu Simuyu a former District Health Official of Manafwa District travelled to Kenya a week ago and lost contact with his relatives.

Dr. Wamasebu is said to  have crossed into Kenya in the company of Church leader who is a suspected con pastor. The suspect is yet to be named.

Security sources had been suspicious Dr Wamasebu had been kidnapped and murdered until Monday evening when his body was found buried in a secret location in Kakamega.

During the search, Police had said that suspected kidnappers had been using the doctor’s mobile phone number to demand ransom from relatives. Earlier Dr. Wamasebu had also sent a distress call to his relatives, saying his life was in danger.

Nation.Africa on Sunday quoted Kakamega North Sub County Police Commander Paul Mwendwa saying that a suspect had been arrested on suspicion of murdering the doctor and that homicide detectives and officials from the Ugandan Embassy in Kenya were expected in Kimanget village in Malava constituency to witness the exhumation of a body that had been buried secretly in a rural home by the murder suspect.

Ugandan officials are yet to comment.
