Political activist and commentator, Frank Gashumba Malingumu has been appointed the Vice Chairman of the MK Movement, a position that has placed him on the top executive committee of the next President, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

The 49-year-old born of Viira Maria in Masaka was appointed by Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the waiting President of Uganda on Saturday.

Mr. Gashumba a renown motivational speaker and a businessman has risen to prominence and fame after his advocacy and branding works around the country.

He first came to the limelight after his fight for Aisha Nabukeera who had been neglected after a fire accident at her home in Masaka. Mr. Gashumba is also the founder of a social justice civil society Ssisimuka Uganda and he has also promoted his daughter Sheila to one of Uganda’s top brands.

His appointment to the top executive of General MK presidential bid organization is therefore not an accident and mistake.

“Great news for the MK movement. Mr. Gashumba comes with his mobilization skills. His trail is pretty clear in mobilization,” Mr. John Kabagambe said.

Gashumba said; “My support to the next commander in chief and president is heartfelt. Whatever the critics want to say is their believe and I don’t care,” Gashumba a told Newsday.

He says his life is a photocopy of two great men- Mahatma Gandhi and former South African President Nelson Mandela.

While quoting Ghandi Gashumba told Newsday, “I believe in self-empowerment. Be the change you want to see in the world.”

Gashumba was born on December 3, 1974, in Villa Maria, Masaka District to parents of Rwandan origin  and has worked to [romote equality for his tribesmen, recently introducing a new term Abavandimwe”.

Gashumba studied at St. Francis Primary School in Masaka District, from where he attained his Primary School certificate. He then moved to Aga Khan Senior Secondary School in Masaka, from where he attained his high school certificate. He joined Nkumba University, and in 1996, graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.

His first visit to Kampala was when he was a small boy attending Primary Seven.

Companies

Gashumba has spearheaded the formation of many agencies including in 1997, when he opened Mali Mixed Farm in Masaka. In 1998, Gashumba officially launched Mali Group of Companies which he morphed into courier, transport and mineral exploration companies and the agriculture arm.

He also founded Bbunda Holdings a Gold and Timber dealer company.

Gashumba has been a political activist without recognition. He was an outspoken backer of Col Kiiza besigye between 2001 and 2016. In 2018, he campaigned for Bobi Wine to become an MP of Kyadondo East.
