KAMPALA-UGANDA/ NEWSDAY: Retired Mukono Bishop James Ssebaggala has been appointed as caretaker of Luwero Diocese after the nullification of Bishop elect and the subsequent abdication of Bishop Eridad Nsubuga.
The Archbishop Stephen Kaziimba announced the Ssebaggala’s appointment in a letter to him dated July 14.
“Your appointment starts effective Tuesday July 18. We trust the Almighty to guide you and enable you to carry out (your responsibilities).
As Bishop, Ssebaggala will carry out confirmations of new Christians, baptize both adults and infants; ordain deacons and preach the word of God.
Ssebaggala will convene Diocesan council, synod, board and other critical meetings.
He will be entitled to a monthly pay of 75 percent of the retired Bishop Nsubuga and house allowance as well using the Bishop’s official vehicle while on official duty.
“We pray with you and for your family as you embark on this duty. May the Lord continue to keep your faith,” Kaziimba wrote.
The House of Bishops nullified the Bishop elect, Godfrey Kasana over alleged infidelity in which he reportedly sired two children outside wedlock.
The Bishops were due to convene to appoint another nomine on August 1 and enthrone him on August 6. It is now clear whether with Ssebaggala’s appointment, the program will go ahead.
There was booing last week from a section of Christians during the abdication service that was led by Central Buganda Bishop Lubowa.
Kaziimba accused the Luwero LCV chairman Erasito Kibirango for inciting the faithfuls.
