List of top government officials quietly sharing Entebbe natural forest leaks

ENTEBBE: A new list has of senior government officials who are quietly parceling out parts of a key natural forest in Entebbe has leaked.

Gunda Forest Reserve which is under contention measures approximately 57 hectares, with a judge, minister, legislators, NRM secretariat officials and tycoons already listed as owners of the gazette area.

According to sources, the forest in Katabi, Wakiso district is being grabbed under the watch of Uganda Land Commission and some officials at Wakiso district.

One of the officials named as having facilitated the partitioning of the government land is the acting secretary at ULC, a one Andrew Nyumba, who reported recommended that the government land valuer sets terms for grabbers to pay rent.

However, Wakiso district chairperson, Matia Lwanga Bwanika is stuck to his guns and has since petitioned President Yoweri Museveni to intervene and save the natural forest.

Bwanika told this website he wants the President to take action against lands officials who are facilitating environmental degradation.

“Our President has been talking tough against degradation. he has banned charcoal burning and exportation of timber. We are sure he will take action against both public and private officials,” he added.

In 1998, the area under dispute was named a local forest reserve after being gazetted in the 1930s.
