President Museveni has ordered the former doctors of the Late Archbishop of Kampala diocese Cyprian Kizito Lwanga to explain the death of the prelate because the disease that took his life was manageable.

President Museveni said he had consulted with his doctors including Dr. Diana Atwiine and he was told that there are procedures and machines that can tell the state of the heart movement at a given point. Museveni said that Dr. Atwiine told him that there are machines like ECG and ECO that can see better the heart electrical work.

“His doctors, apparently have been managing him for that condition- they will have to explain at some point. At some stage those doctors will have to explain. I would like that side to be clarified,” Museveni said. He was speaking at Kololo where government accorded Lwanga an official send off on Tuesday morning.

The head of Lubaga hospital Dr. Andrew Ssekitoleko has been the personal physician for the late Lwanga and he is the one who pronounced him dead on Saturday at 9;08am.

Lwanga died of ischemic heart disease.

“It was a ischemic heart disease following Coronary artery thrombosis. This means a heart attack that is due to a blood clot that was found inside the artery that supplies blood to the heart” the report read by Dr. Andrew Ssekitoleko, said on Easter Monday during payers at Lubaga cathedral.

During his speech, Museveni praise Dr. Lwanga who he said did not only work with him since the NRA guerilla war days but also a development oriented person with whom they worked to uplift the people of Uganda.

“He was part of our guerilla when as a young priest he worked with Bishop Nsubuga. There were also others like Prince Badru Kakungulu who he sent me Haruna Ssenkubuge who used to pray for us,” Museveni said.

“When I came from the Bush Cardinal Nsubuga invited me to Kyankwanzi and as a young priest Archbishop Lwanga was always around.  When he became bishop of Kasana-Luwero, I was happy, one of the things I came to appreciate was his micro finance Twekembe. It’s now a very big microfinance involving many people,” Museveni said.

He said that Archbishop Lwanga was a contrast of the 1960 priests who never minded about development, other than faith.

“I am very happy these days’ priests starting with Lwanga, Archbishop Odama, and others are now spearheading the efforts of wealth creation teaching faithful how to get rid of poverty,” Museveni said.

It was a shock, Museveni said, “when I heard he had died. I inquired and spoke to the police surgeon who was involved in the postmortem- I think his doctors (Archbishop’s) will have to explain because I am told the condition that killed him is well known.”

Museveni also cautioned that the prevalence of Corona is still prevalent with many strains now reported. He therefore implored those arranging burials to do it in a scientific nature to avoid covid transmissions.

From Kololo, the body of Dr. Lwanga is being delivered to his ancestral home in Kyabakadde- Mukono District by helicopter. He will be buried on Thursday inside Lubaga cathedral.
