His Eminence Sheikh Muhammad Ali Waiswa, the Deputy Mufti of Uganda, represented the Mufti, Dr. Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, at a humanitarian event organized by the Muslim World League at their Old Kampala headquarters. The event focused on distributing food and clothing to orphans and refugees, particularly from neighboring countries like Sudan and Somalia.
Sheikh Waiswa expressed deep gratitude to the Muslim World League for their continuous support to vulnerable communities. He noted that this relief program has strengthened the relationship between the Royal Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Ugandan Government, and the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) for over 40 years. Additionally, Sheikh Waiswa announced that the UMSC plans to hold special prayers for the victims of the recent Kiteezi landfill disaster, which resulted in significant loss of life and property. He called on individuals and charities to provide further support, including food, clothing, and other essentials, to survivors who have been left homeless. Other guests at the event included Eng. Musinguzi Badru, who represented the Executive Director of the NGO Bureau, and Mr. Geoffrey Mugabe, representing the Commissioner of the Department of Refugees in the Office of the Prime Minister. Both officials expressed their appreciation for the Muslim World League’s longstanding support of vulnerable populations.
Mr. Muhammad Gabriel, a representative of the Muslim World League, revealed that the ongoing program aims to assist over one thousand orphans. The event was also attended by key figures such as Sheikh Abdu Obeid Kamulegeya, head of the Shuurah committee, Sheikh Abdu-Rarri Muhammad Kalonzi, UMSC Secretary for Zakah Collections and Distributions, Mr. Imam Shaffi Kagiiko, UMSC Secretary for Grants & Social Services, Ms. Amina Lukanga, outgoing Resident District Commissioner of Kampala, Hajjat Fatuma Katogole, Assistant Resident District Commissioner, and Counsel Sharif Miggade. Also present was IP David Odongkara from Old Kampala Police Station.
