COURT in Entebbe on Monday, November 11, 2024 sent three men on remand until November 13, for spreading hate speech and instigating public disorder .

They are alleged to have used their TikTok accounts to insult and spreading hate speech against the president Yoweri Museveni, wife and son Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba aswell as some NRM leaning musicians.

The accused include Julius Tayebwa, 19, a self-employed resident of Kirungi Cell in Mubende District,

The charges stem from alleged incidents earlier this year in which the defendants reportedly shared inflammatory messages through social media and other public platforms.

These messages, according to prosecutors, threatened public order and targeted specific communities, fueling tensions in the region.

The Entebbe chief magistrate Sella Maris Amabilis sent them to Kigo as investigations continue.

Uganda’s legal system has seen a rise in hate speech cases in the past year, with convictions often leading to fines, community service, or jail time.
