The Joint Medical Stores –JMS has lost medical equipment worth Shs.7b in a fire that gutted several warehouses.

On Friday, fire gutted warehouses belonging to Madhvani Group of Companies located at the 5th Street Industrial Area.

The fire is believed to have started from a neighboring warehouse where some people were welding.

The Executive Director Joint Medical Stores Bildard Baguma said they lost equipment that includes ICU beds and medicines.

“Losses could even be more when we combine equipment and medicines,” Baguma said.

Joseph Mugisa, the Director of Fire Prevention and Rescue Services say that they struggled to access warehouses as there was no space left for the fire brigade to put off the fire.

The other warehouses that were gutted by fire were being used by Keshwala Group Distributors, Sawan Distributors and AJP Printing Services, Star Pharmaceuticals Limited, and Mi-Tech Electronics.
