KAMPALA
The political heat is steadily increasing with in NUP with a section of politicians condemning Buganda vice president Hon Muwanga Kivumbi and his bosses of breeding separation as opposed to reconciliation.
During the Saturday political talk show ” parliament yaffe” hosted by Meddi Nsereko Ssebuliba on radio CBS, the panel blamed Muwanga Kivumbi for failing to act to expectations.
The panelist who included Hon Bumaali Mpindi (NRM), Michael Kakembo Mbwatekamwa (NUP), Robert Migadde(NRM) and Yusuf Nsibambi(FDC) were deliberating on internal party democracies at hand.
The debating came as NUP Buganda vice president Hon Muwanga Kivumbi and his party bosses headed by Hon Robert Kyaggulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine gave NUP’s ‘ rebel’ Mps only 30 days to apologize or the party fields new candidates against them. Muwanga had said their seats are more less vacant.
The Mps include Hon Mathias Mpuuga ( Nyendo Mukungwe), Dr Abed Bwanika ( Kimanya _Kabonera) Joy Bagala ( Mityana district), Micheal Kakembo Mbwatekamwa ( Ntebbe ), Dr Twaha Kagabo( Bukoto South) and Jimmy Lwanga among others.
The fall out mainly steams from some of these Mps denial to support a failed impeachment against Mpuuga over the 500m parliamentary award which was widely condemned by NUP.
But Mpuuga claimed it was legal and whoever was fighting it was nursing double standards.
The panel condemned Muwanga and NUP saying all parties have challenges but expelling members may not make the best solution.
Hon Bumaali went personal and exposed how broke Muwanga was helped by Mpuuga from suits to wear to facilitation during the campaigns which brought him to parliament but was now kicking him under NUP clout.
” Muwanga had nothing to wear during the campaigns other than rugs. Mpuuga gave him four suits. If their is a friction between NUP and Mpuuga why can’t Muwanga remember where he came from and use his office to bridge the gap?” Bumaali wondered.
He said Muwanga was acting as if in fear of NUP bosses to spearhead a better alternative other than chasing away his long time friends and fellow Mps yet he had ever faced such challenges in his old DP.
Nsibambi and Mbwatekamwa said some actors were breeding more separation than uniting the opposition to face off with NRM.
” Muwanga Kivumbi is only working towards saving his own NUP face to secure own ticket. That’s why he is not providing any alternative to bridging the gaps he found between the party and some members. As chairman Buganda caucus and now vice president NUP, Buganda he ought to play a more uniting role as opposed to issuing warnings and deadlines” said Hon Mbwatekamwa .
Migadde recalled how he rebelled against president Museveni thrice including on Mobile phone tax and age limit but was never chased out of NRM party.
‘ chasing a member may not be the final solution because you are dealing with people who have divergent plate ideas and support base” said Migadde.
Other political actors have faulted NUP for failing to keep it’s old guns and bringing in more candidates which may spoil it’s superiority.
“Sometimes when you hear NUP aiming at only 100 Mps in the next campaigns you even wonder if that’s not conceding defeat in advance? And given their internal fighting their current numbers in parliament may even go down” said a political analyst.
But speaking on NBS television on Tuesday, Muwanga Kivumbi said the party is moving to ensure discipline to all party members.
He said errant Mps must apologize and mend ways with the party of they face dismissal.
” You can’t be bigger than the party. You can’t be not attending party meetings and taking party instructions and it will be business as usual”. He said the deadline is moving for rebel Mps to save them selves of suffer.
Muwanga said he has personally made efforts to reach those Mps and friends but they are not yielding.
