As you read this the nation is grappling with the arresting of Gen Kale Kayihura’s blue eyed officer, Nixon Agasirwe who headed the police special operations unit when Kale was IGP.
Agasirwe was arrested by security and detained at SIU Kireka ,after a major confession in the on going trial of late Joan Kagezi who was gunned down March 30, 2015 in Kiwatule a Kampala suburb.
Kagezi was a senior prosecutor who dealt with serious cases of terrorism, organized crimes and capital offences among others.
Recently one of the key suspect Daniel Kisseka Kiwanuka an army deserter admitted being involved in killing Kagezi and was sentenced to 35 years in jail and made a State witness.
Three other suspects are facing charges of killing Kagezi.
During the examinations, Kiwanuka told Investigations that the orders to eliminate Kagezi were given to them by a man called Nixon who was driving a government vehicle. He said he once saw the said man though at some distance.
Kiwanuka said Nixon hired them for 200,000 US dollars although they only received Uganda shs 500,000 each as down payment.
A security source told Media that the first impressions brought Nixon Agasirwe in the security picture and they had to act first as they confirm whether it’s Agasirwe who was allegedly behind the murder.
” You can never take anything rightly in security. Agasirwe has been known to having many links to acts bordering outside the law and faces major charges although he is now out on bail. It’s sufficient that he got held as Investigations continue” he said.
Police spokesman Kituuma Rusoke was yet to officially comment on the arrest of Agasirwe.
Agasirwe was speedily recruited into police force by the then IGP Gen Kale Kayihura.
He is Reportedly to have had not a very clean background but reformed.
He climbed ranks and was named the head special operations unit and was at a rank of SSP.
When Kayihura was about to get fired in March 2018, Agasirwe had earlier on in 2017 been arrested with other police officers who were close to the IGP for various charges.
Agasirwe faced multiple charges relating to illegal repatriation of foreigners those of Rwanda origin inclusive, unlawful detention of people, having military weapons wrongly among others but later got released on bail.
