Parliamentary Nominations Bring Life To The Campaign Season

Parliamentary nominations which began Wednesday 22nd October 2025 and ended Thursday have brought new life to a political season which until then was quiet.

Although presidential campaigns which began on September 29 ,2025, the General political mood has been low. They are nine presidential aspirants in the race but the most dominant are president Yoweri Museveni of NRM party and Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine of NUP followed by CPs Munyanya Mubarak and FDC s Nandala Mafabi.

The parliamentary nominations have seen a return of old politicians, the entrants of new one as well as multiple independents mostly from NRM and NUP.

Notable faces in the polls include Merdadrd Ssegona who will tussle Mathias Walukagga in Busiro East, Allan Ssewanyana and Zahara Luyirika in Makindye West, Fred Ruhindi ,Waiswa Mufumbiro in Nakawa, Daniel Kananura ( in the pocture)NRM against Hon Ssemujju Nganda PFF, and a NUP candidate in Kira municipality.

Other contentious constituencies include Mutyana women position where Joyce Bagala is the incumbent, Lwemiyaga where Theodore Ssekikubo is facing Brig Gen Emmanuel Rwashande, Mukono municipality and many more places.

The actual campaigns are slated to start on November 10th,2025 and will stop on January 13th,2026 two days before the polling day of 15th January 2025 for both presidential and parliamentary elections.

According to Uganda’s electoral body, there are 519 elective positions out of which 353 are constituency positions while 146 are for directly elected women MPs for cities and districts.
There are also 20 Mps for special interests groups of the south, elderly, workers and persons with disabilities each group bring five members.
