The State Minister for Works, Hon. Musa Francis Ecweru, has in a surprising turn of events officially withdrawn from the Amuria County parliamentary race, citing the need to maintain unity within the ruling National Resistance Movement(NRM).
“After consultation with my NRM party leaders, including President Yoweri Museveni, my agents and my personal reflection, I have decided to withdraw from the parliamentary race for Amuria County 2026/2031” Ecweru declared his withdraw.
Ecweru who has been a long serving minister made his withdraw public while addressing press in Amuria Town Council on Tuesday.
The minister emphasized that his move was guided by a deep sense of party discipline and the need to maintain unity and stability within the NRM and support President Museveni’s re-election campaign.
Following the disappointing NRM primaries, Ecweru had declared his intention to contest as an Independent candidate after losing the party’s flag to his longtime rival and former UPC member turned NRM politician, Samuel Ediau.
“We may have our individual differences, but we can’t allow them to affect the President and the NRM party,” Ecweru said.
