Former city socialite Bryan Kirumira, known widely as Bryan White, his wife and three others have been charged in the death of Carol Nalubwama 25 who died under nuclear circumstances at Bryans home.
Kirumira who was not in court because he is still undergoing treatment for the wounds he got was charged with human sacrifice and manslaughter among other charges.
The charges, filed under Makindye–Katwe CRB 2161/25, accuse Kirumira of killing Nalubwama on Oct. 22 at his home in Kyamula, Makindye Division, “for purposes of performing or furthering witchcraft, ritual, or other unlawful purposes,” according to the police charge sheet.
Human sacrifice is an offence under the Prevention and Prohibition of Human Sacrifice Act, which carries a maximum sentence of death.
Kirumira, 38, also faces a second count of manslaughter, with investigators alleging he unlawfully caused Nalubwama’s death “by burning” between Oct. 22 and Oct. 27, the period during which she was admitted at Kiruddu Hospital before dying from her injuries.
A third charge accuses him of rash and negligent conduct at his residence during the same period.
Meanwhile, four women identified as Nalunga Daisy a wife to Kirumira, Abaho Daphine, Nakato Naava, and Nambalirwa Joyce Irene were also charged in connection with the case. The suspects, aged between 28 and 41, are residents of Kyamula, Munyonyo and surrounding areas.
The group is accused of participating in or failing to prevent the events that led to the victim’s death.
Its alleged that the incident happened on the 22nd of October while Kirumira was conducting a special sacrifice .
His wife and two other women were aware but chose to keep quiet when things went out of control .
They instead quietly transported a badly injured Nalubwama to a near by health facility, M Mabirizi nursing home where one of the accused Nambalirwa figited with her only referring her to Kiruddu national referral hospital on the 27th of October when it was too late and she was pronounced dead.
Kirumira and group had therefore put up an impression that Nalubwama had got burnt of an exploding gas cylinder on the 27th of October whereas not.
Details indicate that at the moment of the accident, Kirumira acting as a possessed witch doctor was working on a naked or seminaked Nalubwama smearing her with ghee and petroleum as he massaged her in a special sacrifice while surrounded with burning candles .
Its further alleged that there was etra petrol near by which caught fire burning Nalubwama badly but also injured Kirumira who is currently admitted at Mildmay hospital Lweza.
Prosecutors have not disclosed whether additional arrests are anticipated.
Kirumira rose to national attention in 2017 with a philanthropic campaign marked by cash giveaways, celebrity endorsements and high-profile public appearances.
His influence later waned amid allegations of sexual exploitation and misconduct.
None of those earlier claims resulted in prosecution, making the new charges the most serious legal challenge he has faced.
The case has reignited public debate around ritual-related crimes in Uganda, a country where authorities report periodic spikes in such offences despite aggressive public awareness campaigns.
