The head of SHACU, Brig. Gen. Henry Isoke on Friday delivered presentations on “Patriotism: A Weapon in the War Against Corruption” to 1,500 students attending a patriotism training program at Mbarara High School.
Later in the day, he also addressed more than 900 students at Nyakasura School and Bukuku Community Secondary School in Fort Portal.
The programs were organized by the National Secretariat for Patriotism Corps.
The General urged students to uphold integrity, discipline, and responsibility as core values that will guide their future careers.
He reminded them that every citizen including the youth, has a constitutional obligation to contribute to the fight against corruption.
He emphasized that corruption steals opportunities, weakens institutions, and slows national development. Common forms of corruption in schools such as exam malpractice, misuse of resources, illegal fees, ghost teachers, and absenteeism were also discussed with the students.
Gen. Isoke thanked the Commissioner of the National Secretariat for Patriotism Corps and her team for their commitment to instilling patriotism among the youth.
He further appreciated the head teachers of Mbarara High School, Mr. Haam Ahimbisibwe, and Nyakasura School, Rev. Canon Richardson Balinda, for hosting the training sessions.
The General expressed gratitude to H.E. the President and the NRM for championing patriotism as a core national value. He stated, “It is through patriotism that corruption will be defeated. When corruption thrives, a nation loses strength; when integrity thrives, a nation rises.”
He also highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to curb corruption, citing various institutional and legislative frameworks. He concluded by noting that, with the country now at peace and experiencing rapid socio-economic transformation, fighting corruption and safeguarding the progress made under the NRM remains a top government priority.
