The National Association of Broadcasters (NAOBP) has warned its members against engaging in political activities that could lead to license revocation and possible closure by the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC).

Speaking at a meeting at Nican Resort, NAOBP Secretary Joan Vumilia emphasized the importance of maintaining impartiality and professionalism in broadcasting. “Broadcasters must avoid any activities that could be perceived as compromising their neutrality,” she said.

Vumilia’s warning comes amid concerns over the increasing polarization of media outlets in Uganda, with some accused of promoting specific political agendas. The UCC has been cracking down on non-compliant broadcasters, and NAOBP’s warning serves as a reminder to operators to ensure they comply with regulations.

Several broadcasters have been summoned by the UCC in recent months to explain their alleged involvement in partisan politics. The UCC has also revoked licenses of some broadcasters found guilty of violating the country’s media laws.

NAOBP members have been urged to be vigilant and adhere to the regulatory framework governing the industry. The association says it will work closely with UCC to ensure that its members comply with the laws and regulations governing broadcasting in Uganda.
