Kampala, Uganda — At just 21 years old, filmmaker Mboowa Swaadiqu has demonstrated remarkable creativity and determination by directing an exclusive interview with Nyanzi Martin Luther, a well-known Ugandan entrepreneur and media mogul. The entire interview was shot using only an iPhone and a camera, highlighting how modern technology allows for high-quality productions even with limited resources.
The interview features Musayimugaga Bashir, a comedian affiliated with Bastards UG Comedy Foundation, as the interviewer. Joining them were Nakaayi Dorcus and Nabagulanyi Patricia, siblings of Nyanzi, adding a personal touch to the conversation. Their mother, Joan Vumilia, an author, was also involved, providing makeup support for the shoot.
Swaadiqu explained that his minimalist approach was intentional, aiming to create an intimate and authentic atmosphere that larger productions often struggle to capture. “Using limited equipment forced me to focus on the story and the subjects rather than relying on flashy production,” he said.
Nyanzi Martin Luther used the platform to share his insights on the importance of digital skills training and entrepreneurship for Uganda’s youth. He emphasized the need for accessible education and practical training to empower young people to create their own opportunities in a rapidly changing economy.
Despite the challenges of managing all aspects of the production alone including directing, filming, and editing Swaadiqu’s work has been praised for its professionalism and creativity. This project highlights the growing talent among young Ugandan filmmakers who are leveraging affordable technology to tell important stories.
The interview’s success underlines a larger trend in Uganda’s media industry, where resourcefulness and innovation are opening doors for emerging creatives. Mboowa Swaadiqu’s achievement serves as inspiration for many aspiring filmmakers who face similar challenges in producing quality content.
