Kampala. President Museveni has blamed “terrorists and “pigs who do not value life for the attack on Gen. Katumba Wamala.

He also blamed the former minister’s body guard for not shooting to kill the attackers but he said the firing scared them away.

“The bodyguard should not have shot in the air. He should have shot to kill. We could be having a dead terrorist instead of scaring away the terrorists,” Museveni said on Twitter on Tuesday.

He said “the pigs” who do not value life will be defeated, after all security introduced a new system of digital beacons on all vehicles and Boda Bodas that will eliminate the misuse of vehicles and Boda Bodas to commit crimes.

“We shall defeat the criminals as we did in the past. We already have clues to those killers,” Museveni said.

He said he had spoken to Gen. Katumba twice on the phone and assured the nation the four star general is being well-managed.

The attack on Katumba Wamala left his driver Hasan Kayondo and his daughter Brenda Nantongo dead.

“Condolences on the loss of the two Ugandans.  I wish Gen. Katumba a quick recovery,” Katumba said.

Gen Katumba was travelling to Najjanankumbi for a vigil of his mother-in-law who died on Monday.

He has previously serves as army chief of defense forces and the commander of Land forces, both positions he has switched for Gen. David Muhoozi.

Four attackers on motorcycles sprayed bullets at a four-wheel drive vehicle carrying General Katumba Wamala, the former minister of works and transport, in the Kampala suburb of Kisasi.

Investigators are continuing to comb the area, poring over bullet holes in the car’s windows and body and casings on the ground.

Images thought to be of attackers are currently being circulated on social media although security forces have not confirmed them.

In 2019, the government installed a CCTV camera system on main roads in Kampala and other country towns to control high profile homicides and other major crimes. But complaints persist the CCTV network has not helped police solve a lot of killings involving opposition activists and even ordinary Ugandans.
