KAMPALA-UGANDA/NEWSDAY: Hundreds of Ugandans were injected with a fake covid19 vaccine, it has emerged causing horror and uncertainty among hundreds of thousands of the recipients of Astra Zenac jab especially around Kampala.
Some recipients have already died as confirmed by the State House Health monitoring team headed by Dr. Warren Namaara, speaking to reporters on Wednesday.
“The forgers could have used mineral water stuffed into forged bottles. The forged vaccine has pierced tops with loose labels. The quantity in the containers is also more than the standard 5mls,” Namaara told journalists.
Two nurses have already been arrested from Nakawa in Kampala in connection with the forgeries. Their accomplice, a doctor is on the run.
“We will know the origin of the fake vaccine. Let’s us not panic,” Namaara asserted.
The detained nurses were charging clients between Shs 100.000 and Shs.200.000 for a single jab. They had forged vaccination cards and by the time of arrest, 150 pieces were recovered.
The suspects targeted corporate companies including Uganda Baati, Tororo cement, Dott Services, United Bank of Africa, Seven Hills, Diamond Trust Bank, Madhivan Group, Dot Max and packaging.
In March 2020, a father and daughter were arrested in Mayuge district for giving out a fake coronavirus vaccine, even before world class scientists had developed one.
The father and daughter had concocted herbal liquids and were giving out for free expecting payment after patients got good results.
