LYANTONDE-UGANDA/NEWSDAY: Police in Lyantonde district have launched a massive search for a woman who allegedly stole a three-months-old baby from neighbour where had just rented.

The baby, Elisa Wasike was abducted from his mother’s house in Kaliiro Ward B, Lyantonde Town Council, on Saturday afternoon.

The baby’s mother Annet Nakawuka had entrusted it with their new neighbour only identified as Nayebare to soothe him as she attended to house chores. It is said that Nayebare had rented a room next to Nakawuka which she occupied for four days before she disappeared with the baby.

According to Nakauka, she had told Nayebare to keep around because the baby was to breastfeed shortly after completing her house chores. She had entered the house for some minutes when Nayebale locked her house and disappeared.

Her neighbour explains that Nayebare presented herself as a good person and won their trust as neighbours in just a few days.

A neighbour whose CCTV camera managed to capture Nayebale taking the baby, notified police to aid ongoing investigations and the search for the missing baby.

Kereni Namara, the Acting Lyantonde District Police Commander confirmed Wasike’s abduction saying they have got some clues about Nayebare’s network.

Fourth child stolen

The DPC said that Wasike is the fourth baby to disappear in a period of three years. However, police records indicate that only one baby identified as John Kato has been recovered alive and reunited with his parents while the bodies of other two babies were dumped in different communities.

Namara further says that Nayebare is a common enemy for all Lyantonde residents adding that the ongoing joint search is meant to save Wasike and to protect other children from abduction.
