MASAKA-UGANDA/NEWSDAY: Machete-wielding thugs have killed their 28th victim in the continuing unexplained murders in the greater Masaka region.

The latest victim, an  85-year-old Vincent Lusindi, has been a resident of Mpumudde village, Lyakibirizi parish in Kyazanga sub county, Lwengo district.

Residents found his body lying outside his house this morning with machete wounds.
Moses Magondo, a resident of the village says that residents who were going to the garden in the morning discovered the lifeless body.

He says that the assailants accessed the deceased’s house using the back door, which residents found broken. “He stays with people in the house who are however sometimes away, which could have given the assailants an opportunity to attack,” he said.

Meanwhile a document purportedly circulated by the machete gang threatened to kill not less than twenty people in the coming days.

“At Kabwami, we are coming, sleep indoors. It’s a blood shed,” the handwritten document reads in Luganda. Newsday could not readily verify the source of this document, which was heavily shared via social networks.
The Kyazanga incident comes amidst heightened security deployment in the area in response to the persistent killings. Paul Nkore, the Greater Masaka Regional Police Commander indicates that their forensic teams are examining the body to obtain clues that can lead to the killers.

He says their joint security task force has called in more personnel to reinforce their deployments such that they can secure the area from the murderers.
