WAKISO-UGANDA/NEWSDAY: The Uganda Police Force has identified the owner of the house attacked by machete wielding thugs in Wakiso in the wee hours of Saturday.
At least four hooded thugs were captured on CCTV holding shiny machetes and other house breaking implements inside the perimeter of houses. The 11 residential rooms property, owned by Paul Kayemba are located in Kibwa zone, Nabweru Division in Nansana municipality. The premises have CCTV installed in the compound at the gate and in the compound.
When the thugs got into the compound, an alarm system alerted the residents who also made a verbal alarm prompting the thugs to walk away. They had reportedly gained access into the fence by jumping over the walls.
Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Spokesperson, Luke Oweyesigire said that police established that the small gate which also gives access to the premises had not been locked and the thugs used the small gate to run away.
He said that immediately the police saw the video, various officers in charge of the different police stations, under Nansana Division, were contacted to establish if such an incident occurred and whether any of them had received any such information, but unfortunately the incident had been reported anywhere within the division.
“A few hours later, the Division Crime Intelligence officer received information from the defense secretary of Nabweru North, who informed him that indeed thugs armed with Pangas and breaking implements had attacked premises of Paul Kayemba Sempijja in Nabweru North II, Kibwa in Nansana Municipality,” Olweyesigire said.
The thugs attacked Saturday early morning at 3am. It is known yet what the motive of the attackers was but the nation is gripped with fear of machete killings with Masaka already counting above 30 lives lost. In many other areas, unkown people are circulating notices threatening to attack.
On the Nansana incident, Police said that reports they had been informed and failed to respond were not true.
“Efforts are underway to have the suspects arrested and prosecuted. We also want to advise members of the public to remain vigilant and report any such incidents through calling their nearest police stations,” Oweyesigire said.
