KAMPALA-UGANDA/NEWSDAY: The Uganda Police Spokesperson, Fred Enanga has revealed that some of the suspects arrested over the serial machete killings in Masaka region were coordinated by MPs Allan Ssewanyana (Makindye West) and Mohammad Ssegirinya (Kawempe North).
Enanga was addressing journalists at Naguru police headquarters on Monday but he did not provide dates when the meetings to kill were held but insisted that the arrested suspects provided the details during interrogation.
“According to intelligence, the duo allegedly held a meeting in Ndeeba, Kampala from where they met some of the killers promising them fortunes,” Enanga said.
“So we had to invite the MPs to record statements,” Enanga said.
In 2017, police was embarrassed when the then IGP paraded machete killers and pinned a one Brace Bukenya (BK) only after one month the same people coming out to say they had been promised jobs in intelligence services if they pinned BK.
Both Ssewanyana and Ssegirinya arrived at Masaka Central Police Station for questioning on Monday morning.
Security was tight within the entire City and fellow MPs including the Leader of Opposition and Mukungwe-Kimanya MP Mathias Nsubuga, Kampala Woman Mp Shamim Malende, Mityana Municipality MP Francis Zaake and Kalungu East MP Joseph Ssewungu were in a show of force by police denied access to the police Station.
Machete killings have claimed over 30 lives and notices to attack more places were being circulated. Ssegirinya without providing any evidence but speaking with confidence with bouts of tears says it is Kidandala frustrated with Kawempe North Parliamentary elections loss, who is behind tarnishing his name’
“Because you want Kawempe North constituency, Kidandala, is this what you have resorted to? Because you want to be MP? Take the constituency but don’t aim to take my life. What do you think the bereaved families, when they see me linked to the murders, what do they take of me?” Ssegirinya asked in an interview.
