Col. Nakalema moves to rescue Mukono church from Land grabbers.

MUKONO-UGANDA/NEWSDAY: The head of the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SH-ACU), Col. Edith Nakalema has moved to save the Church of Uganda in Mukono secure their land.

Col. Nakalema’s intervention is a second known intervention in Bukoba archdeaconry of Mukono Diocese in under a month. She was petitioned by the leaders of St Stephens Church of Uganda, Kisowera whose land has been invaded by illegal tenants.

In her Tuesday meeting, Col Nakalema was flanked by officials of the Buganda Land Board (BLB) who told the Colonel that the Church are the owners of the disputed land, a position also approved by the government chief surveyor, Wilson Ogalo who was in the meeting.

Recently, a rowdy mob of residents attacked the house of the parish clergy Rev Mikka Lukwago and destroyed his property and house. The District Police Commander of Mukono, Anabella Nyiramahoro reported that there is a notorious youth group that is terrorizing some landlords. Col Nakalema ordered their arrest.

At the end of the meeting, Col Nakalema was praised for her intervention which has helped the church to secure their land from grabbers.

In a related development, Nakalema held a meeting with the bishop of Mukono Diocese James Ssebagala on September 11, whose Bukoba archdeaconry church also is faced by land grabbing issues.

In the September 11 meeting Col Nakalema was flanked by the commander of

Kampala metropolitan police, Stephen Tanui and was convened by Bishop James Ssebaggala.

The bishop reported illegal residents who are threatening the lives of the clergy. Tuesday’s meeting by Col. Nakalema was a follow up, according to diocesan chaplain Kaddu Mbojjana.
