WAKISO-UGANDA/NEWSDAY: Thirty-one Regional Police Commanders-RPCs have completed two months of leadership and command training aimed at retooling top police bosses amidst terror threats in the country. The graduates were part of the command and institutional leadership course intake 002/2021, which started on October 11th, 2021.
The group has been training at Bwebajja Police Senior Command and Staff College Entebbe in Wakiso district. Among the graduates are Norman Musinga, the Rwenzori West Regional Police Commander, Peter Nkulega, the Kampala Metropolitan North RPC, Godfrey Achiria, Kampala Metropolitan South RPC, and their Kampala Metropolitan East counterpart, Deo Obura Onyagura.
This was the first intake of RPCs to undergo the command and institutional leadership courses since Police started implementing President Museveni’s directives to conduct refresher training for senior police commanders in May this year.
Presiding over the pass-out, the Inspector General of Police, Martin Okoth Ochola said that the police force will continue conducting different pieces of training for its officers in the ongoing efforts to fight terror threats. He warned the officers to execute their duties with utmost discipline, hard work, and dedication to exhibit professionalism to their junior officers.
Dr. James Nkata, the Director Uganda Management Institute-UMI, which partnered with the police to conduct the training urged the graduates to exhibit the skills they have acquired to steer the police. He cautioned the officers against corruption and human rights violations, which has repeatedly tarnished the image of the police force.
Moses Kafeero, the Commandment of Bwebajja Police Senior Command and Staff College said that all 31 participants successfully completed the course.
Assistant Commissioner of Police, Deo Obula Onyagura, who spoke on behalf of other graduates, said the course has enhanced their abilities in planning and execution of operations, managing people, monitoring, and evaluation among others.
