KOLE-UGANDA/NEWSDAY: Gunfire rocked Akalo Comprehensive Technical School in Kole district on Tuesday evening as police used live bullets and teargas to disperse rioting students.

Trouble started after a police officer from Akalo police station in Akalo town council, went to the school and handcuffed a year-two student who’s accused of impregnating a fellow student in the same school.

A source at the school told URN on condition of anonymity that the students locked the main gate, and angrily surrounded the officer who was trying to take the suspect to the police station. The students roughed up the police officer, giving chance to their colleague to flee.

It took heavy deployment of other police officers who used live bullets and teargas to disperse the rioting students. The school principal, Denis Odongo Ogwal, says that the officers managed to restore calm and rescue their colleague.
