KIGALI-RWANDA: Rwandan President Paul Kagame has said his country was closely monitoring Uganda before full resumption of bilateral relations.
Speaking from Kigali on Tuesday, he said “We will keep monitoring the progress, and work together to fully open the border when the Covid-19 situation allows us to do so”.
He added: “There are signs that Uganda has started to move in the right direction – solving the said issues.”
Kagame clarified that the closure of Katuna boarder, recently reopened was not major of his what his nation’s largely that helped him into power in 1994, core issues.
“The border’s closure was not the issue in the first place. Uganda recently sent an emissary to Kigali, and he agreed that the underlying issues (fronted by Rwanda) will be solved,” Kagame said according to Rwanda Times.
He also said relations with Burundi will get back normal.
“It’s still work in progress, and both sides are committed to see it through,” Kagame was quoted saying.
A fortnight ago Land Forces Commander and first son Muhoozi Kainerugaba visited Kagame and held talks after nearly two years of silence between Uganda and Rwanda. Each nation accuses the other of spying or facilitating dissidents against the other.
There has been life loses at Katuna or arrests on either Rwanda or Uganda nationals at the boarder after accusations of immigration breaches.
