UNITED STATES/NEWSDAYUGANDA: Social media network, Twitter on Friday suspended the account of novelist Kakwenza Rukirabashaija.
The social network cited breach of rules without going into detail.
But it is suspected Kakwenza’s furious comments towards Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and his powerful son, the commander of UPDF Land forces, Muhoozi Kainerugaba formed part of the reasons.
Fo three years Kakwenza has criticised, sometimes abusing the dictatorship of Mr Museveni who this month declared his son as heir, an avenger.
Kakwenza, a global winner of PEN International 2021 award for his critical book against Museveni has been detained and tortured thrice in three years.
He on Wednesday fled Uganda, assisted by a neighbor country and is believed to have landed in Europe late on Friday for medical checks.
In a messege pinned to Kakwenza’s account that is now marked as susoended, the network said that; Twitter’s purpose is to serve the public conversation. Violence, harassment and other similar types of behavior discourage people from expressing themselves, and ultimately diminish the value of global public conversation. Our rules are to ensure all people can participate in the public conversation freely and safely.
