The NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC) has endorsed Annet Anita Among as flag bearer for the Speakership post of Uganda’s Parliament.
Earlier on Wednesday evening there were varying accounts from the CEC as to who had been endorsed. Sources had said Among had been dropped for the post of speaker in favour of the former deputy defense minister Oboth Oboth. But later news emerged she was the favorite and would tusstle it out with an opposition candidate.
A source attending the CEC meeting revealed that “as CEC recognises the call for legal and parliamentary experience. Jacob Marksons Oboth Oboth, the State Minister for Defence and former Chairperson Legal and Parliamentary Affairs endorsed for Speaker.”
Among has been advised to retain her seat as a Deputy Speaker, giving her chance to learn parliamentary duties.
But late in the night, NRM chief whip,Tayebwa confirmed Among was endorsed as their flag bearer.
At least 13 NRM MPs including ministers had expressed interest to contest for the post that until Sunday, had been occupied by the late Jacob Oulanya.
