KAMPALA-UGANDA/NEWSDAY: A National Unity Platform (NUP) faction led by controversial Moses Kibalama Nkonge has ordered Members of Parliament who were elected on party ticket to report themselves to the new administration.

But secretary general Lewis Rubongoya said the orders are illegal and are a scheme by government to destabilise a peaceful party.
“There is nothing that binds. Those are efforts by government to frustrate us. We won’t listen,”Rubongoya said in a telephone interview.
In a press conference early on Tuesday, Kibalama announced that party Principal Bobi Wine had been assigned new roles as a foreign affairs secretary while Rubongoya will now be research secretary. He expressed optimism the two would deliver classically but warned should they not report to a new Ndeeba based office, they will be fired from the party.
“And to the MPs and all other leaders elected on our party ticket, come and report to our offices as a sign of paying allegiance. Should you fail, we will inform authorities to remove you from your positions,” Kibalama said.
The “new secretary general” Gideon Tugume accused Bobi of running the party as a family affair and without accountability.
“They have collected lots of money but have failed to offer accountability. We will auction their property if they have misused party money,”Tugume said.
He explained that whereas they has an agreement with the Bobi Wine, it elapsed and the party went back into the hands of the original owners who have since convened a delegates conference where new leaders were elected
