LUWERO-UGANDA/NEWSDAY: Two drones have reportedly been spotted in Luwero on a purported massive manhunt to arrest youth who clobbered a National Resistance Movement (NRM) supporter during the burial of former social critic Jakana Nadduli on Monday.

And the situation has reportedly become tense with youth hiding from their homes.

Jakana Nadduli, the son of Abdul Nadduli was buried Kadunda village in Kapeeka sub-county in Nakaseke district after a sudden death that his father has blamed on government.

During the funeral of Jakana opposition National Unity Party (NUP) party supporters stormed with placards containing photos and names of missing persons in protest against the ongoing abduction of their colleagues.

The situation deteriorated further when Kiryandongo deputy resident district commissioner Henry Ssebunya who was the master of ceremonies attempted to block some NUP legislators and secretary general, Lewis Rubongoya from addressing the mourners.

NRM supporters led by a youth-only identified as Majambere joined the RDC and started roughing up the NUP supporters forcing other mourners to flee into banana and coffee plans to avoid the chaos.

Now on Tuesday hours after the incident, sources have said youth are in hiding after allegedly spotting drones that are hunting for those who involved themselves in the beating of Majambere.

During the funeral as the situation became worse, Sheikh Ramadhan Mulindwa, the Kadhi of Luwero district took over the microphone but he couldn’t proceed because of the tension prompting Nakaseke district police commander, Ben Nuwamanya and his team to take over the funeral as police deployed strategically along the road to restore calm. In the process, Jakana’s father, Abdul Nadduli lost his phone in the fracas and was evacuated by his bodyguards for his own safety.

Jakana Nadduli, 37, a strong critic of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party breathed his last around 1:30 am today while being rushed to a clinic in Wobulenzi town. His death comes a few weeks after his release from remand in prison. Jakana was locked up for allegedly promoting sectarianism against the Abavandimwe  on social media, a claim he dismissed.

His father, Nadduli, the former Luwero LC V chairperson and former minister has blamed the death of his son on his arrest shortly after undergoing an operation at Nsambya hospital following a nasty accident. Nadduli told journalists that his son complained of torture while in detention despite the fact that he was recuperating from the surgery.

Jakana’s wife, Aaliyah Kyagaba, said that her husband had been complaining of severe stomach pain resulting from the kicking during detention.

“Upon his return home, he couldn’t even stand because of the pain, which escalated due to the torture while in detention,’’ Kyagaba.

She revealed that on Sunday evening, Jakana asked medical workers to administer strong painkillers after experiencing severe pain in the stomach.

President Museveni ordered for a postmortem to clear the air on the cause of Jakana’s death. Results are yet known.

Former presidential candidate, Kizza Besigye called on the citizens to condemn arbitrary arrests and torture of people during detention.
