Accused: Mr Guy Smith

The arrested American Citizen has been charged with subversive charges against the Uganda government.

Subversion is undermining power and authority of an established system or institution. It may include infiltration of government departments and the security forces and often foments civil unrest

Mr Guy Smith was arrested on Sunday by gunmen in three Drone vehicles and two salon cars in the tourist city of Fort Portal.

“A task team from the Special Investigations Division (SID), arrested Guy Smith, an American National, from Fort Portal for his alleged involvement in Antigovernment subversive activities” the Uganda police force said on Monday night via their tweeter handle.

Police said Mr. Smith remains in custody at SID, Kireka, as inquiries continue.

“Any new information will be communicated accordingly,” police said.

President Museveni has consistently accused Uganda’s opposition of working with unnamed Western countries in subversive activities.
