Police in Rukungiri district have detained a mother and two of her children on accusations of killing a father.

The deceased has been identified as Godfrey Mugisha 58, resident of Kahimbi cell, Kikarara parish, Bwambara Sub County in Rukungiri district.

The Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson Elly Maate identified the suspects in the murder as Tumushabe Beatrice 50 and her sons Banturaki Beinomugisha aged 15 and Tumwesigye Lawrence.

Maate says the couple have had a long-running and violent domestic dispute which they suspect to have resulted into the killing.

Information gathered by the Police indicates that on April 18th 2021, Mugisha burnt Tumushabe’s clothes and further chased her away on accusation of engagement in multiple love affairs.

Mugisha remained alone until April 23rd 2021 when a bad smell emanating from his residence aroused suspicion. It is reported that his son Banturaki and another brother, 37 year old Kyokushaba Alex together broke into the house and found their father dead.

Maate adds that the two later reported the matter to Kikarara police post which visited the scene, did the postmortem which according to them Mugisha’s death resulted from strangulation.

The case of death by strangulation was filed at Rukungiri Central Police station under Reference number CRB765/2021.
