Wakiso. Six students and a teacher expelled from Kings College Budo are alleged to have deliberately started the fire that gutted Grace Dormitory on Tuesday, police has said.

The deputy police spokesperson Luke Oweyesigyire said on Wednesday night that conflicts are suspected to have started with the expulsion of six students who allegedly assaulted other students.

“We have come to a point of thinking this was an arson meaning the fire was intended and currently police is looking for the suspects,” Oweyesigyire said.

There are unconfirmed reports that students pounced on their colleague who was allegedly involved in homosexuality and this is what triggered colleagues to beat him up-attracting expulsions.

“We shall ascertain the truth after thorough investigations. There is also talk of maladministration. The whole allegation is rotating around that. There is a lot of finger pointing,” Oweyesigyire said on Wednesday night.

He said that police investigators were dispatched and are taking statements from eyewitnesses and staff to establish the cause of the fire.

By Wednesday night, police had in preliminary findings determined the cause of the fire were an act of arson.

Although the school remains silent about the allegation of expelling six students of claims of homosexuality sources said that these indeed occurred at the beginning of this month.

Fire on Tuesday morning burnt Grace House, a girls’ dormitory at King’s College Budo located in Wakiso District. There were no injuries since the students were out of the dormitory by the time the fire started.
