Kampala. Some Members of Parliament (MPs) of the eleventh house were allegedly paid Shs.3 million to vote for Speaker Jacob Oulanya and his deputy Anita Among.
Pictures of the newly elected deputy Speaker Among in which she appears to parade millions of money sparked the corruption reports. But Newsday could not readily verify the claims.
The money bonanza has not spared even some members of the opposition who at the last minute, also allegedly having eaten Kadaga’s money benefited from the billions dished by Oulanya camp.
Uganda’s parliaments have over the past years been implicated in corruption and bribery allegations to enable passing of critical issues including budget allocations, suffocating corruption investigations in government agencies, removing the age limit and term limits among others.
Top opposition figures from the National Unity Party, the Democratic Party, Uganda People’s Congress are said to have brokered the corruption deal that on the NRM side was championed by Anita Among on behalf of her camp and that of Oulanya.
In the Speaker’s vote, Oulanya beat his former boss Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga garnering 310 votes against the latter’s 197
Among scored 415 votes while the closest contender Yusuf Nsibambi got 35 and Mohammad Nsereko…24. There were seven invalid votes
