WAKISO-UGANDA/NEWSDAY: Police are hunting down a group of ten suspected thugs who reportedly broke into a house and robbed its Chinese occupants of more than 200 million shillings.

Charles Twine (pictured) , the Criminal Investigations Directorate-CID spokesperson said the thugs broke into the house located in Kisingiri zone, Bunamwaya-Makindye Ssabagabo in Wakiso district at around midnight and tied the victims with ropes before fleeing with the money.

Preliminary findings by Katwe police division show that the gang who were 10 in number armed with pangas, jumped the fence and pounced on the workers, tied them up and later broke into the main house where they robbed 200 million Shillings in Ugandan currency and $5,000.

“Our interagency findings indicate that this place has become notorious with panga wielding men, and to that effect, the territorial commanders have deployed heavily both motorized and foot patrols to counter these unfortunate incidents and track these suspects.,” said Twine.

He however cautioned members of the general public especially the business community to avoid moving or keeping such huge amounts of money in houses without security.

The incident comes just months after another robbery was executed when thugs posed as workers from National Water and Sewerage Corporation and attacked a Chinese residence in Kyambogo,  Nakawa division, Kampala.

The gang who were a few days later tracked and arrested as they planned another mission to Congo, also applied the same trick of tying their victims with ropes before robbing them of more than 100 million Shillings in April.
