KAMPALA-UGANDA/NEWADAY: The accuser of Journalist Moses Mugalula has denied being pushed by another person in pursuit of justice in her defamation suit.
Newsday had in its article on Tuesday indicated Nakanwagi had spoken to the lawyer of Mugalula mistaking him as somebody who had been sent from Lawyer Nsibambi’s office but in an interview on Wednesday morning she denied the claim.
“I never mentioned Nsibambi’s name. I only talked to Al Mahad Kungu (another journalist with Softpower), telling him to avoid snooping into my suit,” Nakanwagi said.
She added: “At court I didn’t talk to any person from Mugalula’s side apart from Angel Lubowa (also a journalist). Why include people’s names who are not part of this saga?” Nakanwagi wondered .
She also said that the lady she was seen speaking to is the prosecutor in her case. Nakanwagi clarified that she no longer works with the Vision Group that she is now a councilor representing Kireka ward to Wakiso District.
She said that a section of the public has blamed her for suing Mugalula. ” What do you do when someone refused to retract libel? When he defamed me in February this year, I asked him to retract his statements and he refused. We shouldn’t have gone this far but he was adamant,” Nakanwagi said.
Mugalula commonly known as Tim will spend the next two weeks in Kitalya Prison after being remanded on Tuesday on defamation charges by use of computer misuse and cyber harrassment. He allegedly refered to Nakanwagi as a former girlfriend who is “very dry, Stony and Sandy”.
